The color of antique spongeware was made by applying the cobalt oxide to the pottery piece with a natural sponge or rag. Sponges were cut into various sizes and stamped all over a piece or sponged border with a hand painted central design.
Measures approximately 9" D (10" D with handle) x 5" H
In good condition with wear commensurate with age. There are no chips, cracks or blemishes to note. Shows the normal pitting of salt glazing. Paint has smears consistent with this hand created art form.
