Pomo Hand Woven Basket with Lid. Circa 1800's. Native American. Antique

This C. 1800 Antique Pomo woven beautiful basket with lid is an exceptional example of this art form by the Pomo people. Clean and nicely sized in a classic weave from the northern area of California (north of San Francisco). Includes a current appraisal by Art Fortune's Elena Von Kohn at $3,400.

Crafted by hand using traditional weaving techniques, it features intricate patterns and natural materials. A stunning example of indigenous artistry, this basket is a valuable artifact of Native American heritage. Includes a lid with handle that is very unique to be with this outstanding piece.

A basket of this style and class will work in every décor. Can see it just as easily gracing a country style home as contemporary for a textural art piece. Use in a traditional style den or use in a coastal home to store yarn.

According to Pomo legend, the earth was dark until their hero stole the sun and brought it to the earth in a basket. He hangs the basket each day, moving its position because he cannot decide which light he likes.

A collectors delight. Very few Pomo baskets are offered for sale and the occasional ones that do are because they require repair or are significantly damaged. This unique basket is in very good antique condition with only slight signs of wear. It has definitely been a treasured collectible and well treated.
